It’s times like these that I most miss the original Weeaboo Stories, which was really the Mecca of Mignogna Hatred.
Many women have described Mignogna getting way too touchy-feely while taking pictures. However, the most egregious example I’ve heard of his creepy behavior involved stepping into an elevator with a fan, then pretending to “trip” and grab her boob. Like, really?
He’s also preachy. I don’t mean that there’s anything wrong with being religious or Christian, but when you hand out records of yourself reading the Bible in the voices of different characters—as if your fans are heathens in need of conversion—then that might be a problem. I’ve also heard a few former fans complain that his manner toward them completely changed when he saw their Star of David necklaces, or that he eyed their Hijabs with suspicion.
This brings us to Vic Mignogna’s Thoughts on Yaoi. This is a whole shit-storm that began when Vic requested that his fans not ask him to sign their yaoi fanart. Now, I totally get why he would not to sign porn. I’m down with that. But when asked why he doesn’t like yaoi, Vic did not say that he’s just not interested in looking at Ed/Roy doujinshi. Instead, he went on a whole spiel about how fans are projecting relationships that aren’t there, and blah blah blah. The gist of it is that Vic was outraged by fans taking what Judith Butler would call a queer reading of the text! And he SPOKE TO CLAMP so he knows that his character in Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicles isn’t gay, THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!! (He also knows these characters way better than we do, because he like, had a hand in their creation or something.) Isn’t just the most arrogant, transparent response? Ugh. I really can’t with him.
If this is not enough, note that he has banned from several cons for rude behavior to the staff. So yeah.
Vic Mignogna: Human Turd.
(And most voice actors are really nice! I’ve never heard a negative story about say, Crispin Freeman or Laura Bailey. I’m sure they have their detractors, but there is a reason Vic Mignogna inspires so much hate.)
(Also, I just do not like him as a voice actor. He sounds the same to me in every single role, which is tough, because if I want to watch an otherwise good dub, I can’t get the terrible taste of Mignogna out of my mouth.)
