It was odd to see him like this. He was usually so jovial, and bright, and warm, and energetic. But, as she knew, finals were coming up, and she knew all too well how many nights they had both spent simply awake in their bed, their minds unable to completely detach from the impending finals dangling over their heads like the blade of a guillotine. She too felt the sleep she lost gather in dark circles beneath her eyes every time she applied concealer. However, it was only now that she gave it some serious thought, thought that went further than a empathetic thought.

Sousuzui’s eyes trailed down his form as he slept on the sofa, still burrowed in his shoes; he hadn’t made it past the couch before he crashed. Call it love, call it maternal instinct, call it being a doting girlfriend, it doesn’t matter what you called her reason for calmly setting down her bags on the front door, kicking her shoes off, and going to her boyfriend’s feet and untying his shoes, and placing them in a neat fashion by the door. She went to massage each calf, just as she did with her mother when her mother looked particularly ran down, and stressed.

Her fingers dug to lovingly and deeply untangle the tension in his muscles, as well as the muscles in his legs. Her love seeped into his skin and past her fingertips, but Makoto didn’t stir. Her fingers only moved onto the next part of his body once the muscles she had been working on felt like jelly. She unwound the stress that his thighs had when carrying his body across the pool, helping children, and going above and beyond to help Mr. Sasabe.

Her hair came undone from its haphazard bindings behind her, and she cared not how disorderly it looked; she’d be in bed beside Makoto on that couch once she was done. She hadn’t bothered to slip on her house slippers, or her pajamas–she smelled like the penguins she’d worked with today, as well as the antiseptic she applied overzealously when trying to ensure that the chicks hadn’t contracted anything from her. She was a infantile zoologist at one of the

His back, she knew, was one of her best parts of him to kiss, but she didn’t smile or feel anything but concern for his wellbeing as soon as she touched the muscles in his lower back. They were so wound up, and she worried about his health. She didn’t want his health to suffer if she knew how to help him, she didn’t want to see him sick. That smile that lit up her world had to stay burning bright, she wouldn’t have it burning any dimmer than its best.

He was a special, rare flower that she felt it was her duty to maintain and take care of, to dote take care of him.

“No, no, don’t, I’m okay–” He was awake.

Sousuzui watched him move into a sitting position, and shook her head. “Shut up and relax.” She cooed, and moved to sit where his upper body once was, opening her arms for him to lay atop her. She tugged him when he tried to protest, and began to kiss his head when she tucked it beneath her neck, her fingers working to ease the tension in his scalp.

Headcanon that Sousuke couldn’t say “I love you” to Makoto for the longest time.

He was sort of a hopeless romantic. Like Rin. But slightly less hopeless. And he just wanted to say it at exactly the right moment.

Instead, it just sort of slipped out in the middle of a conversation over lunch.

For a second, Makoto just stared at him (he still had a bit of seaweed hanging off his lip), and Sousuke was kicking himself because this was not how it was supposed to be, but then Makoto was super happy and smiling and he said he loved him too and Sousuke decided that maybe things had turned okay after all.

yESSSSSS
